So, my game shipped on April 24, 2007.
You would think you would feel different, knowing that literally tens of thousands of people are playing a game that has your name on it somewhere. It is so surreal.
And the general consensus? The game is good! People (including myself, actually) are enjoying it. LOTRO had the second highest pre-order history of any PC game to date! (Presumably WoW's expansion, Burning Crusade, has the highest.)
So surreal...
So, I work for a video game company. In QA. Yeah, I play games all day.
Anyway, I have this project that I, partnered with another coworker, run a preview server. We have a bunch of really good former Beta Testers on this server who help us bug new content. It's actually a fun and rewarding experience.
Until you piss them off.
See, the forums for this server are very, shall we say, specific. They have to discuss the stuff on the server otherwise the point is moot. So, I closed a few threads this weekend that were 'off topic'. I explained why I closed the posts, but apparently that didn't matter.
I am now know as 'The Hammer'. Nice. My coworker? They love him. He logs on to the server and gives them things. Me? I police the forums and manage the login accounts. I'm not the glamour admin.
If it weren't for me, they couldn't log in to the game or the forums to get all the free stuff to begin with! Where's the love??
Sigh. Working for a game company is not all the beer and roses it's cracked up to be.
Well, not all the time, anyway...
So, yeah, a friend told us about this. And he's a cool guy. Blogging? Not really our bag. But I'll give it a shot...
